Since the news of the Bahamas Telecommunication Company being sold to Cable and Wireless broke, there has been an uproar amongst Bahamians. Recently this has become a battle between BTC employess, the government and now irate Bahamians from other facets voicing their opinions about the 51% sale of BTC to Cable and Wireless. Just today a heated and intense protest broke out in Rawson Square as Bahamians demanded answers from leader Rt.Hon.Hubert A. Ingraham. Here's what some Bahamians are saying. And check out this video snippet of what occurred.
'Children are being molested and people are being murdered but they don't want to protest against crime and having murderers and predators hung but they dam protesting and acting like village idiots because of a company being sold.I am sure they could not do any worst than BTC has already done seriously , lets get it together.
'They need to sell BTC, BEC, Water and Sewage and all other government entities!!That's why we are in debt; trying yo pay these BULLSHITTIN STAFF!! It ain't about FNM or PLP; it's about what's best for this country! People are just afraid of change! The only way this country could progress is if we try something new. The old way wasn't working!
'O.M.G I am so disgusted with this whole BTC thing...after this is all over majority of them will be at cable and wireless door putting in their resume. I wont even begin to talk about the IDIOTS who embarrassed themselves in today's 'riot' and cant even say WHY they were out there in the first place. For each and every person they ask not ONE person can give a suitable answer on why they're protesting. Such a damn shame!'
'While you were busy at work on face book all day, Bahamians were downtown creating their own lil Egypt! --Just as long as ya'll keep my cell phone connection going, I'm good!
'I don't think these people even have the right facts. Bahamians need to understand that BTC, like many other government establishments, are overstaffed and have a million redundant positions with 10 different supervisors and managers for one damn department. Not to mention there can be some good coming from this. How can we grow, evolve if we don't CHANGE! Technology will be upgraded with who knows what else. I wish all these people will sit all the way down, and sit small at that!'
'Yes, BTC is lousy, 'wutless', whatever you want to call it and yes we do need change but we should way all of our pros' and cons before making such drastic decisions. Bahamians offered to purchase BTC, why weren't given and equal opportunity? IS this not their country too? Also, issues that plague BTC can be solved without selling it. Hiring consultants, and equipment. Like I said earlier today in the same argument. You know what you gat, but you don't know what you getting. Do you see America letting any other foreigners come to their country and run such an important entity?'
'Ignorance is bliss. People are always afraid of change. Who is looking out for the consumer? Aren't we a little tired of lackluster service, poor customer service and exorbitent rates?'
'We Bahamians protest for the wrong things. If they had to protest against crime, Bahamas for Christ or Peace on the Streets how much of them would be out there? None! It's a shame. We worry about the wrong things. Sell BTC so cable & wireless, at&t, sprint, n digicell can come and bring low rival prices. The government needs to sell BTC, BEC, Water N Sewage and jus keep Bahamasair n ZNS only. They're scared now that they'll finally have to work for those BIG BUCKS they usually make on their days of procrastination, being lazy and calling in sick to go to regatta. It's about time they work for those coins!'
Here's a snippet of today's protest

Shamika is excited about capturing the title of Miss Global Teen, which will be the 7th international title garnered by this organization, and perhaps, the most important one.
Special thanks to Theodore Elyett's Miss Teen Bahamas Organization.'
I got a chance to speak to Mr. Theodore Elyett and asked: 'Can you describe the feeling you get as you see your queen have continued successes?'
The organization and execution of top class pageants is not just a passion, its my life's mandate. Twelve years ago when I embarked on this road of delving into the field of Beauty Management, I envisioned myself someday operating an organization of this sort, but never in my wildest dreams did I think that we would be so successful in such a short amount of time. In five short years I am overjoyed when I think about the successes of the eleven queens that we have crowned thus far. Not only have six of those ten ambassadors captured international titles for The Bahamas and our organization, but many of them continue to attain success even after their reign is complete; that means we are doing something right!
IslandMode: 'What are you expecting and planning for the future?'
The future for me looks very bright Aneka. As I now look back at the past 12 years Ive realized that its about time for a mental readjust, I am now embarking on the rest of my life's journey with the end in mind. I envision Theodore Elyett Productions, the parent company of Theodore Elyett's Miss. Teen Bahamas Organization, becoming a household name, not only locally but globally as well! As our motto states, "A Local Organization On An International Assignment," with God at the helm of this ship its only uphill from here. To be respected and known as the best in the world at pageantry, that's my future!
Ms. Roll and the entire Theodore Elyett Miss Teen Bahamas Organization has my full support.
Now let's bring home the victory!

I finally got some time off so I decided to spend it with a few girlies and of course the day couldn't be completed with having lunch somewhere divine. We decided to stop over to the Iguana Cafe- Bar and Grill and we made a great choice.
I got a chance to speak with owner Chris PapaGeorge that said the restaurant has been in the Prince George Arcade on Bay Street for the past ten years.
The inside area is nice and cool if you are trying to run away from the hot sun
or if you are looking for a great place to sit outdoors and enjoy the view from up high then this is the place for you
The food was absolutely amazing. The menu ranges from Greek Specialties, Gyros, Grilled Sandwiches, Seafood Dinners, Native Dishes, Pasta, Beers and Tropical Drinks.
We got the delicious Mozzarella Sticks, a Gyro Sandwich, Chicken Melt, Bacon Burger with Provalon and a Bacon Burger with American Cheese and it's easy on the pocket. So good service, great food, greater price ;)
The outside area is my favorite as you get the opportunity to enjoy some of the cool breeze and overlook the inner part of the arcade. I had a great time with the girls.
BONG! (That’s the sound of the huge gong they hit in the Japanese restaurants: D)
With my love for food and discovering new places I stopped over to Ichiban Restaurant a few weeks back and the newly renovated Sea Front Sushi Restaurant last night
Let the battle begin!
I’ve always loved Ichiban’s delicious and delectable food choices but having a huge bite of Sea Front Sushi’s scrumptious and satisfying choices made me rethink: ‘which one is better?'
Here’s my examination of the two:
Scenery: it’s safe to say both these restaurants offer great scenery while you eat. Sea Front Suchi both upstairs and down stairs offers a view of boats in the harbor and a little traffic on the one way drive. Ichiban has the same
Customer Service: both restaurants are sure to make all of its patrons not only well fed but comfortable.
Now time to get down to the main reason I was there, the food.
You can’t visit one of these restaurants without trying their rolls and I was sure to try Ichiban’s version of Sea Front Sushi' Salmon Tempura roll. I love this rolls because of the rice bits and the crunchy shell. Sea Front Sushi’s version wasn’t very different. You just have to try these.
Ichibans ‘Woo- Woo’ is a fruit drink mixture with Vodka but over at Sea Front Sushi the mixture is called the Rum Rummer. They look the same but be careful, Sea Front Sushi’s a little stronger. If you are driving try something lighter or even a soda. You’d would wish you did.
Food and Cultural Experience: When trying new places I want to feel like I am experiencing something totally new and different and being in a Japanese restaurant made me feel like eating fortune cookies and eating with chap sticks. Ichiban offers a slight amount of cultural experience with their chap sticks and boat-shaped bowls but Sea Front Sushi came out on top in this category with the mini booths that holds up to six persons. No shoes are allowed in the booth and you are required to either kneel or sit on the softest little black cushions. There were neither forks nor spoons so if you don’t know how to work those chap sticks you better get your crash course now.
At Ichiban I had the Shrimp Musamun Curry, Crispy Shrimp with Rice Noodles, Deep fried bakery roll (if my memory served me correctly)
Last night over at Sea Front Sushi I tried the Miso Soup, Salmon Tempura Rolls and
The beef tempura Dinner
I'll play it fair in this regard and say whichever one you choose to eat at will guarantee a tummy full of satisfaction.
Affordability: It’s pretty safe to say that Sea Front Sushi is definitely more affordable than Ichiban.
They are willing to accept quality work by Bahamians to be added to the store. Pieces must be in good shape and of good quality.
Be sure to stop by! The place is absolutely fabulous. For special gifts for family friends or just to enjoy the view and craftsmanship of great Bahamian designers.
